A Review of The Carny Kid
Some lives read more like fiction than the truth. These are people who
simply defeat all the odds against them and who demonstrate that growing up
poor and in a bad neighborhood is not a ticket to jail or an early death.
That’s why The Carny Kid: Survival of a Young Thief by Kenny
Kahn ($19.95, Pendant Press) is so worth reading. It is the memoir of the
author, who survived parents who were carnival thieves and small time drug
dealers, survived the tough streets of East L.A., survived polio, played
high school football and went on to become a successful attorney and even a
standup comedian! It’s an inspiring story and, best of all, an entertaining
one, too.
